This topic is so important, that not only have I changed my views on it, but I also believe it should stand on its own page for my visitor’s quick reference.
I use AI-generated artwork for freely distributed materials, like nano-streams, as story inspirations, sketches, and starting points. I do not sell such art, even though I often create it using my own sketches and materials, upon which I train the Adobe tools that I pay to use to assist in their creation. It is not free to me, and I work hard to ensure that I use reputable tools, start with my own work, or work from works whose living artist gives me permission to use their materials.
I do as much as I can to distance my works from obvious derivatives. As a creator myself, I respect and understand the work that goes into creating and the desire to see that be recognized fairly. As a Christian, I believe in respect for others, including artists and the engineers who create generative tools. No tool should be used to abuse others, and I work hard to avoid this. When I sell work, it is produced by living artists and skilled professionals for the exact reasons that I write all of my own works. I believe in the value of the artisan. Still, I also will not shy away from using the best tools at my disposal to deliver engaging content for my fans and readers.
